An Oily Situation

I had another Owen mishap this past Saturday. Owen is our adopted ex-racing greyhound. Here he is with his famous crocodile grin.

DH had used a frying pot to cook something and then he told me he was going out to the grocery store. Well, he didn't tell me that he didn't put the frying pot in a place where Owen couldn't reach it.

I was upstairs when I heard a crash and I went running downstairs to find that Owen had pulled the pot over. There was cooking oil running everywhere! I stripped off most of my clothes (what a sight!) and started to clean up the mess. There was no way that I was going to risk ruining my clothes with stains from cooking oil. So there I stood, working for what seemed like an eternity in my underwear, cleaning up oil that covered the floor, cabinets, and countertop.

I came away with some positive thoughts from the experience. Here is a list of them:

1) Owen was not injured because the oil was already cooled
2) The floor, cabinets and countertops received a deep conditioning from all of the oil
3) My old kitchen rugs were ruined so I was finally able to justify throwing them out.
4) I got some good exercise from all the bending and stooping
5) I'm really thankful for paper towels. They were invaluable for cleaning up the mess. Can you imagine life without them?

I'm amazed that you came away from that experience with such positive thinking. That would have depressed me for a week at least! Glad no one was hurt and years later I suppose you will be laughing about it.

So happy to hear that the dog was not hurt. Sorry you had to deal with the mess. Good thing you can look at this with a positive attitude.

Thank goodness that Owen was okay. That would be my first thought too. And I like your idea of cleaning in your underwear when it's a messy clean up. LOL What a surprise if the neighbors had come over at that time. LOL

Thank goodness Owen is ok. I bet you are beaming in the shinny kitchen!

I'm glad that you could see the good side out of something like that happening. But as long as no one was hurt, that's all that matters!

Rigby and Lola, our dogs, ate a TON of cooled cooking oil and got really sick from it, but nothing worse, thank goodness.

LOL! I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you! I thought that I was the only person that took off clothes to clean up messes. I did it the first time (to my husband's utter amazement) when Katie was a baby and threw up. I just stripped and started scrubbing....LOL! My husband said then he hoped it never happened in public - my urge to clean in my undies! LOL!

Isn't it great to be able to always see both sides in things and messes that happen? Good thing.

So pleased to hear you did not "slip slide away" and that Owen is ok - I think greyhounds have the most gentle faces (usually lol) .
Thanks for comment about my little pear tree I am fairly new to all this blogging stuff so still a steep learning curve .

Oh my, this could have been really bad if the oil was still hot. I'm happy that everyone was ok in the end and that nothing caught on fire.

You are so good to think of the positives-I think I would have thrown my hands up and cried. Then cleaned the mess! I am glad that the oil was cooled-poor baby!

Good news that Owen wasn't burnt.

Some good positive thoughts about the situation, i am still trying to think positive thoughts to negative situations.
